Abstract:

The present invention concerns an orientation, navigation and information system specially adapted for blind or low vision persons. The system allows the access to information usually made available to users in a visual form, outside or inside of private or public places, such as a metropolitan station, airports and other public transport stations. The system is prepared to provide orientation and navigation to the users based on a system of acoustic emitters.

The information on the destinations or stations and transport lines and timetables, but also the localization and orientation are also very difficult to be applied to inside ambient in which the GPS or similar signals don’t have coverage. No personalized and integrated systems to locate, provide useful information and guide blind or vision disabled persons are available worldwide.

Benefits:

Solving completely the main difficulties of information access regarding services and about buildings or other facilities where a service is provided, to blind or visually impaired people (and also by others), requires the integration of information and navigation resources in one practical and simple system. In this sense, it is here presented the use of a wireless personal communication device. The invention disclosed herewith offers the use of a network that covers a specific location where services are provided and the use of information is needed, combined with other networks of general coverage.

Potential comercial use/applications:

The system is designed for being implemented by entities which are managing public or private transport facilities like metropolitan stations, airports, bus and train stations but also hospitals, universities, shopping centres and other public services.
