The EIT Health MedTech Bootcamp 2019 aims to efficiently equip interdisciplinary teams of young and ambitious engineers and health practitioners with an individually tailored entrepreneurial toolbox, a convincing business plan and a strong network of investors to catapult their promising healthcare transforming ideas from sketch to market.

Who should apply?

The programme is aimed at teams of Master and Ph.D. students, and/or postdocs – as well as young professionals – who have a business idea for a product still in research and development. Specifically, it targets projects that have achieved technology readiness levels from around level 2 (technology concept formulated) to level 5 (technology validated in a relevant environment).

Programme

The 1st phase will take place at the start-up Joseph’s and Zollhof in Nuremberg as well as UnternehmerTUM based in Munich where the teams will be provided with a business design toolbox to develop and implement a sustainable future business plan and create prototypes by applying proven methods out of design and management.

In the 2nd phase at the FAU and ZiMT in Erlangen, the program will focus on validation as the key of a successful start-up and business idea. The participants will get a greater overview of the central topics of IP, licensing, reimbursement and medical device law within the context of the international disparities of the European healthcare systems to improve their approach. The entrepreneurial landscape of the Medical Valley EMN offers a great ecosystem with healthcare providers, experts, and scientists to validate their start-up approaches and get direct feedback from future users and customers. The teams will get access to testbeds and living labs and benefit as well from the broad clinical network of the Medical Valley.

After one month of preparation, the teams will participate in a roadshow as the 3rd phase of the MedTech Bootcamp. During the following 4 weeks, the teams will start out on a tour through Europe to pitch their start-up ideas in front of possible investors. Every stop will include a 2-3 day program with several pitching and socializing events as well as meet-and-greets with experts. Our way will lead us from Erlangen to Lodz (University of Medicine Lodz), Barcelona (IESE), Paris (Medicen Paris Region) and Coimbra (Instituto Pedro Nunes).

Participating teams will receive up to 10.000€ per team to cover travel, accommodation, and other expenses.
