The ClinMed 2019 Summer School aims to give an up-to-date general perspective of the life cycle of a medical device: from the initial concept until it reaches the European market. Participants receive experiential training in the appropriate steps to take throughout the development cycle of a new medical device, with an initial phase of immersion in a hospital followed by theoretical and practical training.
Who should apply?
Students enrolled in a Master or Doctorate program (in medicine, pharmacy, computer science and engineering, business, health sciences, technology, usability, ergonomy, etc.) as well as current engineers and executives of medical device companies.
Programme
The course is based on the pedagogical concepts of experiential learning and design thinking. It starts with a three-day immersion phase at a hospital or a living lab, where teams of 5-7 participants exchange ideas with healthcare professionals and/or patients about a problem or challenge that can be addressed with an innovative new product. In a second, seven-day phase (July 4th to 12th), all participants will meet up at the main site of the Summer School in Autrans, a village located in the French Alps near Grenoble, to develop their projects through conferences and coaching on the tools used in the development cycle of a medical device, provided by academics and industrialists.
Cost
Students from the Porto region will not have to pay any tuition fees. However, they will have to pay the complete cost for accommodation and meals.
The ClinMed 2019 Summer School will be awarding grants to a selected number of students. These grants can be applied only to housing and/or meal costs at the Manoir des Lauzes (where courses and workshops will take place) in Autrans, France. However, a participation will be asked (around 200€). Funding is limited. Therefore, students interested in applying to the program and receiving a grant should apply as early as possible.
More information about this programme can be found in the following link and at the ClinMed 2019 website. Applications are submitted through here as well.
Application deadline: May 31 2019 (admission may close earlier if all available seats fill up)
