Protection of Intellectual Property

Have you created something special that you believe could be marketed? If so, your invention should be protected, as this may benefit you and the University. U.Porto Innovation provides assistance with national and international patent registration, as well as finding market applications for inventions. We evaluate the best way to monetise the knowledge and technologies generated at the University, be it by licensing to existing businesses and new ventures, or by directly selling the inventions.

For further information, please read the University of Porto’s Intellectual Property Regulation (available on our website, in the Downloads section) and contact us for further support.

The University of Porto boasts a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem. “U.Porto Innovation” is an integral part of this ecosystem, developing numerous initiatives to foster entrepreneurship, such as business plan competitions, elevator pitch sessions, workshops and events to attract investors (venture capital and “angel” investors).

If you have an innovative concept and you would like to create a technological business, U.Porto Innovation’s wide network of contacts and specialised team can assist you at each step, from the validation of a business plan to contacting investors. The “U.Porto Spin-off” seal can be attributed through U.Porto Innovation, distinguishing the start-ups that emerge from research activities within the University.

U.Porto Innovation seeks highly qualified staff to collaborate in the evaluation and commercialisation of technologies. The UPINTech programme seeks to hire University of Porto doctoral students and post-docs who wish to improve their abilities in technological analysis and valorisation. If you fulfil the required competencies and would like to participate, do not hesitate in applying.
